The Benefits of Fruits and Veggies

For a long time now (probably since the days of Adam and Eve), we have known or at least heard of the benefits that can come from consuming plenty of fruits and vegetables. In the case where we have a choice, fruits and vegetables should be right at the top of our list of things that we pick up whenever we are at the supermarket.

When you first walk into a supermarket, you will notice that all of the fruits and vegetables are laid out for your right as soon as you step foot through the door. But how often do you make a bee line for this section? In the United States of America, there are simply not enough people consuming the delicious, healthy foods that they could be consuming if only they gave themselves the chance. Instead, they are bypassing the fruits and heading straight for the bakery section or the area in the middle of the supermarket where all of the processed foods are stored. Understandably, there seems to be an inarguable link between those of us who consume fruits and veggies versus those of us who do not. Of those who do not eat as much fresh fruits and vegetables, you often see weight gain, trouble breathing (asthma) as well as increased risk for various forms of cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Because most fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants, they contain the very nutrients that are needed to stave off infection as well as various forms of disease. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to visit the produce section of the supermarket each and every time that you go. Rather, you could also visit the frozen food section where there are also plenty of fresh fruits and veggies to choose from. What's more is the fact that many times, frozen fruits and vegetables are actually better for you than the other varieties because these particular fruits and vegetables were handpicked at just the right time in order to seal all of the nutrients inside of the food. On the other hand, when you purchase fresh produce, it tends not to be quite as fresh because you are not sure how long is has been sitting out for.

If you are not sure of what impact fruits and vegetables have on your life or will have, you can always seek out the professional help of a nutritionist or doctor who will more than likely send you home with a personalized meal and snack chart, dealing with all of the different types of foods that you will or will not be able to eat and why. Keep in mind that the entire time that you are eating well and maintaining regular screenings with your doctor each year, you will see a huge difference in how you feel as well as how you look. The look of good health certainly has its own glow. Once you learn how to eat well and exercise efficiently, you'll be able to live your life to the fullest.
